A Clinical Study of Therapeutic and Prophylactic Use of Vagilac in Vaginitis


Abstract
It has long been believed that the Doderlein bacilli, lactic acid-producing normal vaginal inhabitant, have a defense mechanism on the invasion of foreign pathogens.
Bacterial replacement therapy is not a new concept in the management of various kinds of vaginitis. The purpose of this study is to follow-up the effect of the therapeutic and prophylactic use of Vagilac in vaginitis.
Thirty five women, diagnosed as vaginitis, were treated with specific drugs and Vagilac, and another twenty three women with specific drugs only. The diagnosis and therapeutic results were evaluated by direct wet smear, Gram-stain and culture method. T. he followings are the results. obtained by comparing the end-results of the two different treatment.
1. The disappearance of subjective symptoms was more prompt in the Vagilac treated group than the control group.
2. The cure rate after first one-week-treatment was 85.7% in Vagilac treated group and 78.3% in control group.
3. The cure rate after second one-week-treatment was 100% in Vagilac treated group and 91.3% in control group.
4. The prophylactic use of Vagilac is valuable in recurrent chronic vaginitis especially vaginal mycosis.
